AFT Activities - Kyles of Bute
AFT has undertaken a work programme on a number of catchments in South Argyll.
Fish surveys
Regular electrofishing surveys of the Ruel and Eachaig river catchments have been undertaken in recent years to evaluate the distribution and relative abundance of juvenile salmon and trout. Other surveys have been undertaken on the Goil, Ardyne and Stronchullin catchments.
Management
Data collected is used to inform individual riparian and fishery owners via the River Ruel Improvement Association and the Eachaig Salmon Fishery Board. It has also informed relocation of a fish farm in Loch Riddon and other decisions taken by the Kyles of Bute Area Management Group.
Our work in the Lower Firth of Lorn is currently supported by River Ruel Improvement Association, Eachaig District Salmon Fishery Board and Lighthouse Caledonia (Pan Fish Scotland Ltd).
The AFT is currently developing a further project to survey fish populations and fish habitat in a wider variety of rivers in South Argyll.
